Plaice Goujons with Homemade tartar sauce


  • 125g plaice, cut into 5 goujons
  • 2 large eggs (whisked)
  • 100g plain flour
  • 200g breadcrumbs
  • 80g mayonnaise
  • 10g finely chopped capers
  • 15g finely chopped gherkins
  • 10g finely chopped shallots
  • 1tsp finely chopped parsley
  • Lemon juice, salt and pepper

Preparation method

  1. In three separate bowls place eggs, seasoned flour and breadcrumbs.
  2. Individually place each goujon through eggs-flour-breadcrumbs removing excess after each stage.
  3. Deep-fry goujons until golden brown; remove to kitchen paper and rest.
  4. For the tartar sauce:
  5. Mix capers, gherkins shallots and parsley with mayonnaise.
  6. Add lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve five goujons with a ramekin of tartar, and one lemon wedge.

Lemon Sole, Haddock, Cod or Salmon can be used instead of Plaice.

For a main course version use salmon and plaice and serve with chips
